About Lou's

Lou Sjoberg was born in Fredric, WI in 1925. He moved to Duluth with his parents where he attended high school at Denfeld High School, and college at University Minnesota-Duluth.

 Lou was a man of many professions, ranging from professional wrestling to a pipe-fitting welder. 

Lou loved smoking fish, so he decided to open up a shop.

He initially opened "Duluth Fresh Fish" in Duluth, MN. He then moved to Knife River, MN. and opened "Lou's Fish & Cheese House."

He married JoAnn Sjoberg,  and then moved to Two Harbors, MN. Together they opened Lou's Fish 'n' Cheese House in 1985.  

Lou sadly passed away in August of 2003.

After being closed for four years, Two Harbors natives decided it was time to bring back the North Shore tradition of World Famous Smoked Fish and Shrimp.

After a significant renovation, the doors reopened to the public on July 1st, 2018. 

The Swanson family is excited to continue Lou's legacy for years to come.
